The City of Rawlins public water supply system utilizes both surface and groundwater. This type of system is referred to as a “conjunctive use” system. The City uses surface water from the North Platte River for a portion of its public water supply. In addition to surface water diversion, Rawlins utilizes 27 springs, water from which is regulated as surface water, and three groundwater wells set in the Nugget Sandstone Formation for backup supply. The City typically uses more groundwater than surface water.
