Municipal and Domestic Water Use: Domestic Water Use

Domestic water use within the Above Pathfinder subbasin consists of both non-community public water system use and rural domestic water use. United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) records indicate that there are 14 non-community public water systems within the Above Pathfinder subbasin, and that both groundwater and surface water supplies are used to meet daily domestic demand by users of these systems. The USEPA reported the population served by these systems is 3,057 people.

The Fort Steele highway rest area is the only non-community public water system in the subbasin that uses surface water, and this system obtains its water from the North Platte River. Highway rest areas, the Flying J Truck Stop, and a guest ranch account for 82.7 percent of the overall groundwater used by non-community public water systems in the subbasin. The majority of these systems are located in Carbon and Fremont Counties, with a few in Natrona County.

The total number of domestic wells in the Above Pathfinder subbasin is estimated to be approximately 1,682. This indicates approximately 4, 172 people are served by domestic groundwater wells in the subbasin. The following table summarizes information regarding estimated rural domestic water use within the subbasin. As seen by clicking here, almost 98 percent of rural domestic water supplies in the Above Pathfinder subbasin are derived from wells located in Carbon, Albany, and Fremont Counties.
