Municipal and Domestic Water Use: Community Public Surface Water Systems

Based on the listing of public water systems registered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) in the Above Pathfinder subbasin, at least 3,693 people in the subbasin rely on surface water sources of supply for their community water systems. While five public water systems serve residents of the subbasin with surface water, only two systems, Rawlins and Saratoga, utilize the North Platte River as their supply source. The City of Rawlins diverts and treats water for its own use and also supplies the Town of Sinclair. In addition to surface water diversion, Rawlins utilizes 27 springs, water which is regulated as surface water, and three groundwater wells set in the Nugget Sandstone Formation for backup supply. A map showing locations of public water supply system surface water intakes and municipal wells can be seen by clicking here.
