Municipal and Domestic Water Use: Domestic Water Use

United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) records identify 28 non-community public water systems within the Pathfinder to Guernsey subbasin. Both groundwater and surface water supplies are utilized by these systems to meet daily domestic demand. The USEPA reported that the population served by these systems is 5,054 people.

Groundwater is the primary water source for non-community public water supply systems in the subbasin. Approximately 3.3 percent of water is supplied by surface water sources while 96.7 percent is supplied by groundwater. The Dave Johnston Power Plant, which obtains water from the North Platte River, is the only surface water non-community public water system in the subbasin.

The total number of permitted rural domestic wells in the subbasin from Pathfinder to Guernsey is, based on Wyoming State EngineerÆs Office records, estimated to be approximately 4,892. This correlates to approximately 12,462 people served by rural domestic groundwater wells in the subbasin. The following table lists the estimated water usage breakdown per county within the subbasin. Click here to view a figure that shows the rural domestic water supplies in the subbasin.
