Little Missouri River Basin (GIS Data)

Theme: Source Layers
Sub-Theme:Standard Series Base Maps

Dataset Name: Cartographic Feature File

Spatial Extent

Scale:1:24,000

Source Agency:US Forest Service
Geometronic Service Center

Dataset Description:

A Cartographic Feature File (CFF) contains the digitized representation of all the point and line features on a US Geological Survey (USGS) Primary Base Series (PBS) map with the exception of contours and map text. The PBS is a standard USGS map series with a map scale of 1:24,000. PBS maps are derived from USGS 1:24,000-scale quadrangles, but are updated on an approximate 7-year cycle via Forest Service field personnel. The CFF is a vector file of PBS quadrangles, attributed with a series of map symbol designation. Coincident features are identified with a single line in the CFF, and the data contains only line and point information for polygon features such as lakes and administrative boundaries.

Dataset Utility:

The CFF is available in thematic groups but is limited by lack of topological structure within and between quadrangle tiles. The data is therefore suitable for cartographic display and development of value-added datasets for large-scale analysis. Updates to the PBS via field personnel are of variable quality.
