These tabular data were converted to a geographical information system (GIS) point data set with each well being represented by a point positioned by latitude and longitude. The water production database obtained from OGCC does not contain expired wells, temporarily abandoned wells, wells awaiting approval, or shut-in wells. These factors, combined with wells for which operators refuse to submit data, account for the absence of 10,995 wells over the entire Powder River Structural Basin during the year 2000 from the water production database for which of the OGCC has a unique record elsewhere in its system.
