Contains approximately 38,447 point locations of Wyoming well permit locations on file with the Wyoming State Engineer's Office. The wells have been located to the to the nearest 40 acre parcel. All locational information and
attributes were imported from the Wyoming State Engineer's Office
Well Permits Database stored in SQL-Server.
This data set enables users to view the State Engineer's office groundwater well permit database spatially. Viewing the data spatially gives users the ability to perform regional analysis. This data set was created specifically for use in the Platte River Basin project. Inaccuracies associated with township-range locational descriptions as well as the problems inherent in the State Engineer's Office database exist in this data set.en2004publication dateNone planned-109.121348-104.05203643.16134840.998328-109.121348-104.05203640.99832843.161348Groundwaterwellsaquiferwater-tableNoneWyomingNoneLaramie countyNatrona countySweetwater countyAlbany countyConverse countyCarbon countySublette countyNiobrara countyFremont countyPlatte countyPlatte River BasinNoneThis data set was created specifically for use in the Wyoming Water Development Commission's Platte River Basin Plan. There are two sources of error associated with the transfer
of location description from township/range/section/quarter/quarter
to latitude/longitude. First of all, because the latitude/longitude
generated is the centroid of the quarter/quarter section, the
actual well location could be anywhere within the quarter/quarter
section, or +/- 279 meters.
Secondly, the program used to convert the TRSQQ to Lat/Long,
assumes all sections are the roughly 1 square mile, but in fact many
sections are irregular in size. Because of this, some well locations
were inaccurately placed in an adjacent quarter-quarter section.
In every case, however, the well should fall within the correct 1:24,000
scale section.

The well permit data for the dataset existed as a SQL-Server
database at the Wyoming State Engineer's Office. SEO Publishes a quarterly CD which includes their entire database organized by county. This information was sorted to only use wells for the Platte counties and added to ArcView.
Next, the record number, township, range, section, and quarter quarter section were exported to a text file and run through an ArcView routine. This routine generates latitude and longitude values for the points from township/range descriptions. The routine used the BLM GCDB GIS layer as it's source PLSS information. This layer is 1:24,000-scale. Quarter Quarter sections were interpolated for this area based on section boundaries. Locational accuracy for this area is unknown and should only be assumed to be within the proper quarter quarter section.

Some of the data fields included in the SEO database have been excluded
from this layer. If permit ownership information, well yield data, or
other more specific fields are needed they should be obtained directly
from the SEO and then joined to the GIS layer.
