These data were digitized and edited from best available sources at a scales ranging from 1:24,000, or better, up to 1:2,000,000. This data is not intended to be the authoritative source for hyrologic units, but only as a reference to NHD data that has some interdependecies with hydrologic unit delineation for reach code assignments.
Original data from the USGS Water Resources Division (WRD), NHD, and the USDA NRCS Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) . Other updates contributed by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Forest Service and USGS NHD program data compilers as well as various State, Regional and Local agencies.

GIS data from Wind and Bighorn River basin National Hydrologic Unit Boundaries to the 6th Level (HUC12 - http://nhd.usgs.gov/ and NRCS (http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/)) were dissolved together.
For the Montana Bighorn basin, we were only interested in the parts that drained into Wyoming. When possible we used entire HUC 12's from Montana for this purpose. However, there were three HUC12's where part of the HUC drained into Wyoming and part drained within Montana: Rock Creek, Grayling Creek, and Fan Creek. We split these three HUCs into Wyoming- vs. Montana-bound drainages - using basins (created in spatial analyst), hillshades, and DEMs The areas draining into Wyoming were then dissolved with the rest.
