Overview of Modeling Approach

We are presently developing a data base that will illustrate the water use profile within the basin. This information, by itself, is a very important data base that can be updated to reflect changes in the water use in the future.

In addition, the Basin planning team is developing the consumptive use associated with the basin water use profile data. This will assist in the development of the surface water spreadsheet model. We anticipate the following information, as a minimum, will be utilized and integrated into the development of the model:

• Diversion records from the major diversions (those diverting more than 10 cfs) from either the Bear River or the major tributaries;

• Consumptive use and return flows associated with the major diversions from the Bear River and major tributaries;

• Gaged inflows from the major tributaries;

• Bear River Compact and how streamflow is administered to meet the requirements of the compact;

• Wyoming water rights administration with respect to available streamflow;

• Operational criteria associated with the administration of the three reservoirs (Sulfur Creek Reservoir, Woodruff Narrows Reservoir, and Whitman Reservoir)

The model will be developed and calibrated to reflect the current water uses within the basin. Once calibrated, the model will be used to identify available flows during wet, dry and average annual flow periods.
